Campfire FAQs July 17, 2024 16:54 Updated We encourage you to enjoy time around the campfire during your stay, unless a burn ban* is in effect. If a burn ban is issued, our team will notify you on the day of your reservation. In this article, you’ll learn about: How to Build a Campfire Our Ready-to-Light Campfire Add-On *Burn bans are occasionally enforced at our Outposts due to state or county wildfire risks. During these times, no fires are permitted, and our rescheduling/cancellation policies remain in effect. By booking a Getaway, guests acknowledge and agree to this policy. How to Build a Campfire Before Building Your Fire: Check Local Regulations: Abide by local fire regulations. We notify guests if there’s a burn ban and provide alternatives like grills or charcoal. If a burn ban is in effect, no outdoor cooking is allowed. Use Provided Firewood: Only use the firewood in the starter kit. Never use wood or kindling from around your cabin - these are often homes for birds and other wildlife. Violations can result in a $100 fine. Unattended Fires: Never leave a campfire unattended. Violations can result in a $100 charge, donated to local conservation groups. Outdoor Cooking: Limit pot and pan use to the stovetop only. How to Build Your Fire: Set Up: Place the firestarter (without unwrapping it) in the center of the fire pit. Lay one log alongside it. Create a "lean-to" structure by leaning 3 more logs against the first log. Lighting: Use the provided lighter to ignite the firestarter. NEVER use lighter fluid or other flammable materials. Cooking Tip: Wrap aluminum foil (found under your sink) around the cooking grill before your fire gets going. Maintaining Your Fire: The fire needs oxygen to start, so blow air at the base of the fire to help the kindling and firewood catch. Continue to stoke and add more wood to maintain the fire, but don't let it get too big. Never leave a fire unattended. Extinguishing Your Fire: Pour water on the fire. Stir the ashes. Repeat until the ashes are cool to the touch. Do not use the cabin fire extinguisher. We ask that guests never leave a campfire unattended. Violations are subject to a $100 charge, donated to local conservation groups. The Ready-to-Light Campfire Add-On Need help starting your campfire?
